Do Men with Male Boobs have the Ability to NurseWhile it was once a subject that was never discussed openly, the fact is that men are just as capable of breast feeding as women are. This topic, however, is not one that men generally think of, unless they develop man boobs, or Gynecomastia. Again, all men have the ability to breast feed, and this is not limited to men who develop man boobs. Men have mammary glands, just like women do. Unlike women, however, in order for the mammary glands in males to produce milk, they need the same type of stimulus that women receive naturally when they give birth, but not in all cases. Would you believe that many newborn males can lactate? It’s true, and this is usually caused by estrogen from the mother. This is often referred to as Witch’s Milk, however. Furthermore, some men do not need any stimulus in order to lactate, although this is quite rare. Men who have male boobs have a greater chance of lactating then men who do not. This is because the presence of man boobs is directly related to a rise in estrogen levels, which is caused by an underlying health problem. Estrogen is thought of as a female hormone, and most men do not realize that just as women have low levels of testosterone; men have low levels of estrogen as well. So, now that you know that it is possible for men to lactate, and those men who have male boobs have a greater chance of lactation, should men actually nurse babies? Most experts agree that they should not. You see, a male – even if he has man boobs – will not produce as much milk as a female. Furthermore, it has not been determined whether the nutrients in the milk produced by males are sufficient for a baby. Finally, in the case of men with man boobs nursing, remember that there is an underlying health condition that caused the man to develop male boobs in the first place. Leave the nursing to the women, and find out what is causing your male boobs instead. Another important thing to note is that sometimes men have a discharge from their nipples, and that discharge may appear to be milk, but it actually isn’t. Whether you have man boobs or not, this is a serious problem, as it is an indication of breast cancer. In fact, 75% of men who have discharge from their nipples have breast cancer. So, there you have your answer. Male boobs or not, a man does have the ability to lactate because he has mammary glands. However, lactating males is a rarity, and in most cases, does require hormonal treatment to occur…as well as hormonal treatment to cease in most cases.
